THE VINEYARDS

The extension of the vineyards of the cooperative members goes beyond the 1,000 hectares, all of which are located around the municipality, placed in areas with different altitudes, some of them planted on slopes some others, in plain.

We produce about 4 million of kilos of grapes annually, harvested by hand. It’s a proportion of half-half white and black varieties (50% of each).

The climate of our wine region is dominated by Mediterranean characteristics, with very little pluviometry -an average of 350 l/m2)- and the peculiarity of combining eastern wind, cercs, going from earth to sea; and the garbinada, that blows from the sea to earth. We have cold winters and very warm summers, which gives perfect conditions to produce very special fruits.

The soil is mainly dominated by calcareous characters with a very basic pH.

Yields of 2.500 kg/ha vase formation, short pruning; Yields of 3000kg/ha, espaliered formation and medium pruning.

The age of the vineyards depends on the varieties planted, but on average we can count around 50 years old for White Grenaches and Carignans, of 35 years the Macabeos, 25 for the vines of Black Grenache and 15 years old for the new varieties as Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

These are the main varieties we use to elaborate our wines:

WHITES: White Grenache, Macabeo, Moscatell

BLACKS: Black Grenache, Carignan, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

We produce young, aged and reserve wines, and also liquor wines, such as sweet wines and rancis.

All these wines are complex, mineral, fleshy due to the climate (low pluviometry, calcareous soil) that we mentioned a few lines before.
